14 Days Self Drive Safari Tanzania | The Ultimate Self Drive Experience
The less well-known national parks in south-eastern Tanzania are explored on this road trip, which starts in Arusha/Moshi and ends in Dar es Salaam. Ideal for people seeking affordable travel off the beaten path. Experience first-rate safaris in Mikumi and Ruha National Parks, learn about daily life in old-style highland Tanzanian villages, go bird watching, and go chimpanzee trekking in the Udzungwa Mountains.
The daily route for this road trip may be seen below, along with advice on where to stay if you’re making your own reservations. When we take our own road trips, we prefer to stay in these types of lodges: small-scale, with a fair price-to-quality ratio, and, whenever feasible, owner-managed.
When you arrive at Kilimanjaro Airport,Nyange Adventures transfer service will be waiting to greet you in the arrivals area (look for a signboard with your name on it). They will help you with your bags and arrange a transfer to take you to your first lodging in Moshi. After checking in at your Accommodation, you can relax.
After breakfast, you will pick up your rental car and drive to Tarangire National Park, your next stop. Customers might extend their stay in the Tarangire or Karatu region if they are interested in northern Tanzania. Elephants are common because they are commonplace in this area. However, even the shyest wild cats are frequently spotted here.
You will travel to Dodoma today by taking the recently finished route in the south. After a 2- to 3-hour trip, you pass the village of Kolo, which is home to the "Kondoa Rock Art" UNESCO World Heritage Site. To see ancient rock paintings, get out of the automobile and trek up the slopes. You continue to Dodoma, the capital of Tanzania, after the stop. Despite being the country's capital, there isn't much to do or see there.
You will arrive in Iringa, a tiny town in southern Tanzania, farther south after two hours. The city is not at all bustling, and one can observe colonial buildings as well as locations where the Hehe people fought to free themselves from German colonialists. Despite being a small town, we advise a two-night stay to give you ample time to independently explore the city. Despite the restricted number of lodging options, guests will unwind and have a good time.

Tanzania's largest second National Park, Ruaha, is one of the undiscovered wonders your clients must see. With a stunning terrain and one of the largest populations of elephants, cats are also highly prevalent and very likely to be seen. Although a third or fourth night in Ruaha is definitely doable, we advise staying at least two nights there.
Clients must unplug and relax a little outside of their autos after breathing in the savannah's dust. They have the option of staying further south in the Mafinga or Mufindi region on two historic farms that welcome visitors. Here, you may hike, unwind, and eat freshly prepared farm products. Despite being much closer to Iringa than Mafinga, Mufindi has a nicer environment overall.
After leaving the highlands and heading towards the shore, you will soon arrive to Udzungwa Mountains National Park. Since it is a highland rainforest, the scenery is very different from the rest of the journey. On a day trip, you can trek up and cool down at one of the Sanje Falls.
Mikumi National Park will be visited when traveling towards the coast. Since it's not a great distance today, we advise a half-day game drive at Mikumi National Park. The majority of the animals will have already been seen after Tarangire and Ruaha, but it's always great to cap the journey with one more safari day. You depart Mikumi in the afternoon and drive to Morogoro.
You travel to Dar-es-Salaam after breakfast. Your journey's conclusion is awaiting you here. You can prolong the trip to Zanzibar or one of the beaches on the mainland when the car is dropped off at the airport.
For those who want to choose their own adventure while on a safari in Tanzania, Nyange Adventures is one of the few businesses that offers self-drive car rentals.
Our fleet is made up of Toyota Landcruiser automobiles, which are well-known and popular 4WD vehicles in Tanzania. We never use third parties as subcontractors and all of our rental cars are our own. For as little as €59 per day, you can rent a 4×4 safari vehicle in Tanzania that comes with unlimited mileage, a Bradt travel guide, a road map, comprehensive insurance, and round-the-clock roadside assistance.
