Mount Meru Tanzania, Stands at 4566 meters, is Tanzania’s second highest mountain. Mount Meru is located in Tanzania’s Arusha National Park and has some of the most breathtaking scenery and wildlife diversity of any mountain in the country. Meru trek is a difficult trek due to the rocky ridges and steep ascent to the peak. However, it is one of the best ways to gain experience with high altitude trekking and to acclimate for those who want to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. Mount Meru trek takes you through areas where you can get a glimpse of Mount Kilimanjaro.
To make your trip as easy as possible, we can offer accommodation in Moshi/Arusha before and after the climb. Or if you’d prefer, you can stay at a hostel/hotel of your choice. We can also offer airport transfers to and from Kilimanjaro Airport/Arusha if required.A pre-climb briefing will be arranged with one of our mountain guides to ensure that you have all the correct mountain climbing gear (see our packing list for further information). It takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes to drive from Arusha to Momella Gate. We will complete all procedures and depart for the trek once we arrive at the gate. The trek takes you to viewpoints from which you can see Mount Kilimanjaro and the renowned Momella lakes. During this day, trekkers encounter wildlife such as Bushbucks, Cape Buffaloes, Giraffes, and Warthogs. We walk for a short distance until we arrive at the Miriakamba hut.

Today we hike the steep path along the saddle's ridge. You can see the magnificent Meru crater, the ash cone, and Little Meru along the way. We may come across wildlife such as Cape Buffaloes and the black and white Colobus monkey. The trek will conclude at Saddle Hut. Once you've settled in, we'll take a short hike to Little Meru (3810m) for acclimatization before returning to Saddle hut.

We get up shortly after midnight and eat a light meal to keep our energy levels high. After finishing our meal, we begin the final ascent to Socialist Peak. This ascent will be steep, with us passing through gravel and rocky cliffs. This is the most mentally and physically demanding part of the journey. When you reach the summit, you will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the Meru Crater and the Ash cone. Over the rocky ridge, there is a chance of seeing wildlife such as mountain Reedbucks and Klipspringers.
We begin our descent from the summit by heading straight down to the Miriakamba hut.

After breakfast, we will continue our descent to the Momella Gate, changing our route and taking the southern route down, resulting in a change in distance trekked on this day. We'll also walk through the breathtaking Fig Tree Arch.The Nyange Adventures vehicle will be waiting for you at Momella gate to transport you back to your Arusha / Moshi hotel (around 1 hour and 30 minutes).
