7 Days The Grumeti River Great Wildebeest Migration

Overview

Natural phenomena are a plenty around the world, but few compare to the Serengeti-Mara Ecosystem’s annual Wildebeest Migration in terms of sheer size. The numbers alone are unbelievable: up to 2 million animals, along with wildebeest, zebra, and gazelle, travel 3 000 km (1 900 miles) to follow the rains and their oldest instincts.

On an unforgettable and Great Wildbeest Migration Safari, spend 7 days Tanzania Safari discovering Tanzania’s most iconic and exciting national park. Visit the must-see Central Serengeti, the vast plains of Central Serengeti, and the Northern Serengeti.

Itinerary

1 NIGHT ARUSHA, FLY FOR 2 NIGHT WESTERN SERENGETI, 2 NIGHTS CENTRAL SERENGETI, 1 NIGHTS NGORONGORO

  • Day 1: Kilimanjaro Airport – Arusha Town

Whatever your arrival time at Kilimanjaro International Airport, your driver guide from our office will be there waiting for you with a warm welcoming smile, relax in your comfortable vehicle as he takes you t your hotel in Arusha. On your journey to the hotel, you will get a brief impression of this large brief impression of this large, bustling, commercial city. Depending on your arrival time you may either meet with your Safari expert today for briefing or tomorrow before you start your Safari.

  • Day 2: Arusha – Western Serengeti

After breakfast. We will provide you with all the essential information, before we set off to the airport for our flight to the Western Serengeti to begin our Migration Safari. From our arrival airport, we make the journey to our accommodation for our lunch, then begin our adventure with an afternoon game-drive. In late afternoon, we return to your accommodation for our evening meal and our overnight stay. Welcome to the Serengeti!.

  • Day 3: Full Day Game Drive Western Serengeti

After breakfast, enjoy the full day game viewing in western Serengeti. In Migration times, your driver-guide will do all he can to ensure you witness a crossing. If you didn’t see one yesterday, then today offers another possibility. But the Western Corridor has much more to offer. Whether it’s the best place to catch a wildebeest river crossing, the best time to watch a lumbering hippo leave its pool to feast on vegetation for its evening meal, or simply to find the highest vantage point from which to watch the sun set over the plains, your driver-guide will draw on his incredible knowledge and experience to give you wildlife encounters beyond your imagination

  • Day 4: Western Serengeti - Central Serengeti

After breakfast, and a final morning game-drive enrout, we set off for our next destination, the Central Serengeti, a journey of around 80km with a journey time of 2 hours. On arrival, we take lunch and have our first game-drive in Central Serengeti. At the end of your game-drive, you will be taken to your chosen accommodation for some well-earned relaxation and your evening meal.

  • Day 5: Full Day Game Drive Central Serengeti

Today, we set off from our accommodation in central Serengeti. Wildlife is abundant: sometimes you may think it has come to find you, rather than the other way round. Today’s highlight is unknown as the animals don’t publish their schedule and what we see also depends on the season, but this area is where bushland meets grassland, a favorite spot for big cats looking for prey. Cheetah, leopard and lions are all possibilities today. Today you will have a chance to enjoy the varied landscapes of the central Serengeti. The Seronera River weaves its way through this area, providing waters for all species of wildlife. You may also see the distinctive rocky outcrops, the famous kopjes which characterized the Serengeti landscape. Lunch will be served at the picnic site with an unforgettable experience enjoyed in the middle of the bush.

  • Day 6: Central Serengeti – Ngorongoro

Today our adventure takes us out of the Serengeti National Park and leads us to another of Tanzania’s true wonders, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. With its wildlife-filled crater, Ngorongoro may be difficult to pronounce, but with its wildlife-filled volcanic crater it is easy to admire. Unsurprisingly, this is yet another of our country’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites. After a morning game drive and lunch, this afternoon we will head south-east towards Ngorongoro, a distance of 145km which will take us around 3 ½ hours. After the long drive you will be taken to your accommodation for Dinner and Overnight

  • Day 7: Ngorongoro Crater – Kilimanjaro International Airport

After our morning visit to the incomparable crater – see below - and then lunch, we will have a 4-hour journey, covering the 250km back to Kilimanjaro International Airport. From our accommodation, we set off after breakfast, a 6am departure to reach the rim and then descend into the vast crater itself. At one side there’s the Lerai Forest, classic mountain forest landscape with almost tropical characteristics. This is good elephant country, so keep your eyes peeled. By the side of the nearby swampland is what is sometimes called the ‘elephant graveyard’ as the mighty male tuskers at the end of their lives come to chew on the soft, swampland grasses once their teeth have failed them. The crater has a population of around 120 lions, with well-defined territories; 15,000 wildebeest, 9,000 zebra, 400 hyenas, and around 50 black rhino. Many wildebeest and other herd animals are resident, benefiting from the many sources of year-round waters and are boosted by some migrators in season. Buffalo, Thomson’s gazelle and eland are also present in numbers. Hippos can be found in pools and swampland and highland birdlife is colourful and plentiful around the waters. Flamingos can often be seen in Lake Magadi, which occupies part of the crater floor.

With Rogers we had a very nice, humble and experienced guide who we felt really safe and informed with. All went perfectly and smooth as planned.

Beyond all expectations If you are looking for big name safari operators, Nyange is definitely your budget alternative, if not MUCH better than the former. And here's why: To start off, Amina, who is my main point of communication and adventure planner, had been extremely professional, patient, and friendly. She was always incessant in responding to my enquiries and requests. Amina was able to tailor a tour that best fits my interests and budget. As a solo traveller, her efforts in reviewing the accommodation and offering help amidst hiccups made me feel like I am in good hands. Her in-person greetings upon my arrival and departure speaks volume of how much she care about the clients. Without her assistance, I would not have been able to explore the beauty and tranquility of Tanzania with my guide, Alen (the actual spelling haha) /Allen/Alan/Allan. There is no one single adjective that can succinctly summarise the personality of Alen, for he is a guide full of great qualities: - Experienced: having been a safari guide for over 10+ years, Alen has exceptional eyes for spotting animal and sensing where/when the crossing happens, Alen fulfilled all my wishes - from seeing the Big5, watching multiple times of crossing within 3 days in Northern Serengeti, to seeing lions, cheetah, leopards right next to me. Any wildlife sightings that you hope for, he delivers. (p.s. a small tip for those travelling to Northern Serengeti in the wind season: bring earplugs if you are staying in tented camps! haha) - Professional: Alen has great skills when it comes to jeep manoeuvring, despite having witnessed countless of jeeps breaking down due to poor road conditions, we had never had an issue with our jeep -- extremely vital as time is of the essence when the crossing happens. - Strive for excellence: Alen always takes a step further when it comes to finding a lunch picnic spot, he looks for places with astonishing scenery whilst ensuring safety. He constantly seeks for feedbacks to make sure that I get the best out of the experience. - Hospitable: As a solo traveller myself, Alen has been entertaining and caring. He would always accompany me in the lounge area after dinner to chillax. There was never a dull moment with him. Alen is also passionate when it comes to introducing the culture of Tanzania, he looked for places where we could enjoy local food. He has been avid in teaching Swahili too! Overall, I am extremely impressed with what Nyange had delivered and hope you will find the same.

Great safari experience for both a solo female traveler & honeymooners! I have now gone on safari with Nyange Adventures twice, and I had an amazing experience each time. I strongly recommend using Nyange for any Tanzania safari. I first went in 2018 as a solo, female traveler to Tarangire Park & Ngorongoro Crater, and had a great time with a knowledgeable guide and comfortable tented camp. When my husband and I had the opportunity to go back to Tanzania for our honeymoon in 2022, I immediately contacted Nyange Adventures. Amina set up a great, personalized safari itinerary for us to go to Serengeti Park and Ngorongoro Crater. We stayed at great, mid-range accommodations (Tortilis Camp in Serengeti was one of the best places I've ever stayed in my life), and our guide, Kelvin, was amazing. He was friendly, knowledgeable, funny, and helpful, and we left as good friends. I also love that Nyange Adventures is a locally owned Tanzanian company--so many of the other tour operators are based in other countries, so your tourism dollars don't stay in Tanzania. Not so with Nyange, which is owned by and employs Tanzanians. As both a solo female traveler and again as honeymooners, I felt safe, well-cared for, respected, and had an absolutely incredible time. Plus, we saw all of the Big 5 (and a rhino baby, to boot!)! If my husband or I ever have a chance to go back to Tanzania, we'd surely contact Nyange Adventures again.

Great game, great guide, great time, old soggy tents ! Family of four - we extended the standard 4 day tour to 5 days (extra day in Serengeti). First day in Tarangire was amazing: zebra, giraffe, elephants, wildebeest everywhere and Baobabs. Campsite ok. Warm showers and power avail. Goddy the cook made delicious dinner, inc lovely fresh fruit. Drive to Serengeti not as long as we’d anticipated. Lovely to actually spend 2 nights in same place. Sadly weather wet and tents leaked significantly that night. Our tent also had broken zip which thankfully we managed to sort out to stop mosquitoes getting in, and were phenomenally smelly. I slept with nose in shirt!. Bed mats were basic and hard to sleep first night (we are 50 somethings/ rather cronky). Had been sent photo of thicker mats so disappointed. Ngorogoro camp site exciting with giraffe, buffalo, screeching tree hyrax (who knew such small cycle things could scream like that!) and zebras munching around tents/ en route to midnight toilet stop. At end of trip we had managed to see all the big five ( rhino only viewed from viewpoint in crater rim with good zoom though), watched 2 giraffe play “neck fighting”, hippos getting chopsy at pool by lunch spot, had an exciting time skidding around in the mud (Johnny our fabulous guide cool as a cucumber manoeuvred out of the rut eventually), saw bunch of lionesses chomping on a zebra and fending off a jackal. Johnny and Goddy also very helpful assisting us with minor issues (and soggy tent cleaning!), ever smiling and informative.

Amazing experience with a dreamteam Really enjoyed the 8 days Lemosho route with Nyange adventures and especially with our guides Robert and Herick. They really do anything to make sure that you manage the summit. They take your camera's and make photo's of you and the nature and scenery which is really nice because you just keep focussing on walking and climbing and forget taking pictures. Food is really good and every team member is professional and makes sure that you really enjoy the climbing. Lots of laughing and nice stories included. The guides are also very professional when it comes to health care. They check how you feel all the time and make you feel safe. Really recommend Nyange adventures for climbing the Kilimanjaro!

Nyange for Kili is a no brainer I can’t recommend Nyange Adventures enough to anyone wanting to tackle Kilimanjaro!!! It was my first time not only solo travelling but also visiting the continent of Africa so I was a little nervous at first. The team at Nyange did an amazing job from keeping contact with me right up until my arrival , to making sure I get to the airport to leave on time. They answered all of my questions quick and was eager to tackle any challenge I had for them. An example of that is my checked bag had to be left in Amsterdam when I arrived in Moshi thus leaving a lot of my équipement behind. The team at Nyange not only made sure I had all of the equipment I needed for the trek, but also arranged for my stuff to be brought to me on the mountain during my trek. The equipment used was well on par, if not better I find than other operators I saw , and my guide (Robert) did amazing at guiding me to the summit and making this an unforgettable experience. The driver (Living) also did an amazing job at welcoming me into Tanzania as a first interaction and made me feel right at home back in Canada.

One of the best experiences Our experience was amazing and Alan (our guide) was fantastic and very knowledgeable about the history of the land, tress and animals. Thanks Alan for answering our endless questions lol. And thanks Amina for coordinating everything and making sure we get the best out of this experience. I would recommend 2 days in Serengeti, 1 Ngorongoro and 1 in Arusha (and visit the waterfall in Arusha).
