On this 16-day Tanzania and Zanzibar trip, you’ll experience mountain climbing, safari, cultural tour, and beach relaxation. Start with a challenging climb up Mount Kilimanjaro using the Machame route, known for its beautiful scenery. Then visit Tarangire, known for its large elephant herds, Ngorongoro Crater, home to diverse wildlife, Serengeti, famous for the Great Migration and its large lion population, and Mto wa Mbu for a cultural tour. Finally, relax on the stunning beaches of Zanzibar Island.

Mount Kilimanjaro is Africa’s highest peak, standing at 5,895 meters (19,341 feet). The climb offers diverse landscapes, from lush rainforests to alpine deserts and glaciers. Reaching the summit, known as Uhuru Peak, provides an unforgettable sense of achievement and breathtaking views across Tanzania.

Nicknamed “Elephant Land,” Tarangire boasts the most elephants in Tanzania. Spot these gentle giants among iconic baobab trees. Look out for lions, zebras, buffaloes, leopards, and even giraffes!

Explore the world’s largest intact caldera, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This unique volcanic enclosure shelters a fascinating variety of animals. See elephants, lions, ostriches, buffaloes, and zebras roam freely. (Note: giraffes are not found here.) The crater is part of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, bordering Serengeti National Park.

Famous for the Great Migration, millions of wildebeest and zebra thunder across the vast Serengeti plains. This park boasts Africa’s largest lion population (over 3,000!) and is considered Africa’s best National Park. See all the “Big Five” and over 500 bird species here!

Mto Wa Mbu is a Tanzanian small town renowned for its incredible cultural diversity. This town boasts a population representing over 120 ethnic groups, each with their own unique traditions and crafts.

Zanzibar is a tropical paradise known for its pristine white-sand beaches and crystal-clear turquoise waters. The island’s rich history is evident in Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site, with its narrow alleys, spice markets, and ornate Arab architecture.You can enjoy Beach activities like snorkeling and diving, explore spice plantations, and relax in the  island.

Itinerary

Upon landing at Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO), our friendly driver will be waiting for you just outside customs control, holding a Nyange Adventure sign with your name on it. They’ll assist you with your luggage and whisk you comfortably to your Moshi hotel.

At the hotel, your expert guide will conduct a pre-climb briefing to answer any questions you have and provide important details about the trek. This includes an equipment check to ensure you have everything for a safe and comfortable climb. Don’t worry if you’re missing something! Good quality gear can be rented locally at reasonable prices. If you arrive at night, the briefing and equipment check might be scheduled for the following morning. With everything prepared, you can relax in Moshi, ready to embark on your exciting Kilimanjaro challenge!

 

Your adventure begins at Machame Gate, where lush rainforests teeming with vibrant birdlife and playful monkeys greet you. Hike amidst this captivating scenery as your expert guide unveils the region’s unique flora and fauna. After a captivating day, set up camp amidst the rainforest’s mystical aura, ready for your incredible Kilimanjaro journey.

Day 2 leads you towards the historical Shira Plateau, a collapsed volcanic crater steeped in history. Witness panoramic views of the majestic Kibo peak, your ultimate summit goal. As you ascend, the landscape transforms, offering a glimpse into the mountain’s diverse ecological zones. Reach new heights and experience the thrill of camping on Shira Plateau, surrounded by breathtaking vistas.

On Day 3, you’ll challenge yourself with an ascent of the iconic Lava Tower, a volcanic rock formation offering stunning panoramic views. This day is crucial for acclimatization, as your guide will share valuable techniques to help your body adjust to the increasing altitude. Celebrate reaching Barranco Camp, nestled amidst a scenic valley, a well-deserved rest after a challenging yet rewarding day.

Day 4 brings the exciting challenge of conquering the Barranco Wall, a test of your strength and determination. Navigate through glacial valleys sculpted by powerful forces of nature, and marvel at the awe-inspiring landscape. As you conquer the wall, celebrate reaching Karanga Camp, where you can savor the breathtaking views and prepare for the next leg of your adventure.

Day 5 leads you to a significant junction connecting with the famed Mweka Trail. Traverse a dramatic rocky ridge, witnessing the ever-changing scenery as you approach the summit zone. Finally, arrive at Barafu Camp, perched on a high-altitude ridge with stunning views that will leave you speechless. Prepare yourself for the ultimate challenge – the summit push!

It is the unforgettable summit night adventure under a star-filled sky. Ascend through challenging terrain to witness a breathtaking sunrise from the rim of Kibo Crater. Celebrate reaching Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa, a testament to your unwavering spirit and physical prowess! After this momentous achievement, descend safely back to Barafu Camp for some well-deserved rest before continuing your descent to Mweka Camp at a lower altitude for the night. 

Descend through lush rainforests on your final day, celebrating with a summit certificate at Mweka Gate. Reflect on your incredible accomplishment as you return – you’ve conquered Kilimanjaro! But the fun doesn’t stop there. Enjoy a celebratory farewell party at Nyange Farm with your fellow trekkers and your mountain crew. Share stories by a bonfire, savor Tanzanian cuisine, and plant a tree – a lasting reminder of your Kilimanjaro triumph!

Early in the morning, we will pick you up from the hotel and transfer you to Tarangire National Park. The drive takes about 3-4 hours from Moshi. Once you arrive, enjoy a full-day game drive to see herds of elephants, lions, and a variety of birds. Spend the night in a tented camp or lodge  within the park, waiting for your next day’s journey to Serengeti.

Today’s adventure takes you deep into the heart of the magnificent Serengeti National Park. Keep a keen eye out for the king of the jungle, the lion, alongside graceful cheetahs and swift gazelles as you traverse the seemingly endless plains. In the afternoon, you’ll arrive at your comfortable lodge nestled within the Serengeti, ready for further exploration tomorrow.

Spending a full day in the Serengeti allows for deep exploration. Witness the vast migration patterns (depending on the season) or see lions resting in the golden sunlight. Each moment brings new discoveries and unforgettable encounters.

You will have an early game drive in the Serengeti then fly to Zanzibar island for your ultimate East African beach experience.

In the morning, we will pick you up from your hotel, where you’ll explore the narrow streets, historic buildings, and local markets of Stone Town. Visit attractions like the House of Wonders, Old Fort, and Forodhani Gardens. Afterward, take a spice tour to visit spice plantations and learn about Zanzibar’s famous spice industry After a long day of exploration, you’ll return to your hotel to spend the night.

Today,you will have a chance to visit Nungwi Beach, known for its pristine white sands and clear turquoise waters. You will have the chance to relax on the beach and engage in water activities like snorkeling or diving to explore the vibrant marine life. Afterward, spend the night at a hotel near Nungwi with stunning views of the ocean at sunset

You will visit Jozani Forest, where you can see the rare red colobus monkeys and beautiful bird species. You’ll take a guided nature walk to explore the lush vegetation and learn about the diverse flora and fauna. After that, head back to the beach for some relaxing time. Spend the night at White Sand Luxury Villas & Spa in Paje. It’s a fancy resort on the southeast coast of Zanzibar

Start your day with an exciting dolphin tour! Watch these incredible creatures in the ocean. Afterward, enjoy some time at the beach or shopping for souvenirs. In the afternoon, it’s time to leave Zanzibar. Head to Abeid Amani Karume International Airport for your flight home, and this marks the end of your 16-day peak to savannah and sand trip.
