Itinerary

Upon landing at Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO), our friendly driver will be waiting for you just outside customs control, holding a Nyange Adventure sign with your name on it. They’ll assist you with your luggage and whisk you comfortably to your Moshi hotel.

At the hotel, your expert guide will conduct a pre-climb briefing to answer any questions you have and provide important details about the trek. This includes an equipment check to ensure you have everything for a safe and comfortable climb. Don’t worry if you’re missing something! Good quality gear can be rented locally at reasonable prices. If you arrive at night, the briefing and equipment check might be scheduled for the following morning. With everything prepared, you can relax in Moshi, ready to embark on your exciting Mt Meru challenge!

A scenic 1-hour drive takes you from Moshi to Momella Gate, the starting point of your Mount Meru trek. Once there, you’ll register and get things ready for your climb.

Your first challenge is a beautiful 4-5 hour hike through a thick forest. Watch for black and white colobus monkeys and colorful birds along the way!  After this 10-kilometer trek, you’ll reach Miriakamba Hut, your cozy home for the night at 2,516 meters.

Today’s hike takes about 2-3 hours and covers 4 kilometers.  The trail gets steeper, but the views are worth it!  Imagine walking through gorgeous heather and open moorland with stunning views of Mount Meru’s crater and the surrounding landscape.

Your destination for the night is Saddle Hut.  Fill up on a yummy dinner and get a good night’s rest – tomorrow’s the exciting summit push!

It’s summit day – the toughest but most rewarding!  An early wake-up call (around midnight) is followed by a light breakfast to fuel your climb.  Then, you’ll embark on a challenging 6-7 hour ascent to Peak through steep and rocky terrain.  This is a tough push, but the views are worth it!

From the summit, witness stunning scenery of the Meru Crater and Ash Cone.  Keep an eye out for mountain animals like Reedbucks and Klipspringers along the way!  After celebrating your accomplishment, descend back to Momella Gate, ready for your trip back to Moshi town.
In the evening you will have a celebratory farewell party at Nyange Farm with your fellow trekkers and your mountain crew. Share stories by a bonfire, savor Tanzanian cuisine, and plant a tree – a lasting reminder of your Kilimanjaro triumph!

Enjoy a delicious breakfast before conquering the easiest part of the trek – a beautiful downhill walk through the forest for 4-5 hours.  This scenic route takes you on a different path compared to Day 1, offering fresh views as you descend to Momella Gate (1,500 meters).  Along the way, marvel at the breathtaking Fig Tree Arch, a natural wonder!

Once you reach Momella Gate, a driver will be waiting to whisk you back to your Moshi hotel in about 1.5 hours.  In the evening you will have a celebratory farewell party at Nyange Farm with your fellow trekkers and your mountain crew. Share stories by a bonfire, savor Tanzanian cuisine, and plant a tree – a lasting reminder of your Mt Meru triumph!
