Itinerary
Travel from Arusha Airport to Kigoma town, followed by a boat ride along the shore of Lake Tanganyika to reach Mahale National Park, where you’ll spend the night. It’s a scenic journey with stunning views of Lake Tanganyika and the mountain landscape surrounding Mahale National Park. The journey takes around 4-5 hours, depending on the weather conditions.
Dedicating two full days to Mahale allows for an in-depth exploration. Enjoy guided chimpanzee’s tracking experiences, hiking through the forest and following the movements of the chimpanzee groups. You’ll witness the chimpanzee’s playful behavior, social interactions, and intricate communication.
You’ll also have the opportunity to explore a range of diverse wildlife, including elephants, buffaloes, yellow baboons, red colobus monkeys, and 350 bird species. Two full days with the high population of chimpanzees is an unforgettable encounter that will leave a lifetime memory on your journey to Mahale National Park.
In the morning, you have another opportunity to explore Mahale. Enjoy stunning scenic views of the park’s various habitats, including montane forest, savannah, and lakeshore.
