THE ROUTE, AT YOUR PACE

Your journey, day by day.

Day 1Tarangire National Park+

Pick-up from Arusha or Kilimanjaro AirportFull day game drive

Your driver-guide collects you in the morning and heads south-west into Tarangire National Park. Tarangire holds more elephants than anywhere else in Tanzania, with herds of 50 to 100 gathering along the Tarangire River, alongside lions, leopards, giraffes and over 550 recorded bird species.

The park's baobab-scattered plains give it a landscape unlike anywhere else in the north. You'll spend the day driving through it with stops wherever wildlife appears, before heading to Eileen's Trees Inn for the night, roughly a 1–2 hour drive from the park.

Full day inside the craterReturn to Eileen's Trees Inn

An early start takes you down into the Ngorongoro Crater — a collapsed volcano 600 metres deep and 260km² wide, home to more than 30,000 animals. Expect the highest density of lions in Africa, resident black rhino, large bull elephants and flamingos gathered at the soda lake on the crater floor.

You'll spend the day driving the crater floor with a picnic lunch included, before climbing back up to the rim and returning to Eileen's Trees Inn for a second night, ready for an early departure to Lake Eyasi the next morning.

Day 3Lake Eyasi & the Hadzabe — Tour Ends+

Cultural morning at Lake EyasiNo overnight

After breakfast, you'll drive roughly 2–2.5 hours to the shores of Lake Eyasi, home to the Hadzabe — one of the last hunter-gatherer communities in Africa, still using bow-and-arrow hunting and click-based language passed down for generations. You'll join a small group for a guided morning bush walk, observing traditional hunting and gathering techniques first-hand.

Afterwards, you'll visit a nearby Datoga homestead to see their traditional blacksmithing, where metal is still hand-forged into tools, jewelry and arrowheads. In the afternoon, you'll be transferred back to Arusha or Kilimanjaro Airport, marking the end of your tour.

A few good questions.

Where does the tour start and end?

The tour starts with pick-up from Arusha or Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) on Day 1, and ends at Lake Eyasi on Day 3 with a transfer back to Arusha or the airport.

Can I add extra nights before or after the tour?

Yes. Additional accommodation before and at the end of the tour can be arranged for an extra cost — just let us know when booking.

What happens during the Hadzabe visit?

You'll join a small guided group for a morning bush walk with the Hadzabe, observing their traditional bow-and-arrow hunting and foraging methods, followed by a visit to a Datoga homestead to see traditional blacksmithing. Community fees are included in your price.

Is this tour too rushed?

It's a compact itinerary for travelers with limited time who still want a proper taste of Tarangire, the Ngorongoro Crater and a genuine cultural encounter at Lake Eyasi. If you'd prefer a slower pace, ask us about extending with an extra night at Eyasi or Lake Manyara.

Do I need a visa or vaccinations for Tanzania?

Entry and health requirements depend on your nationality, travel history and current rules. Check the official immigration guidance and seek advice from a qualified travel-health professional before departure.

What's the accommodation like?

You'll stay both nights at Eileen's Trees Inn — a mid-range lodge positioned within easy reach of Tarangire, Ngorongoro and Lake Eyasi.

What's your refund policy?

We recommend taking out travel insurance as soon as you confirm your booking. Full cancellation and payment terms are on our booking policy page.
